Mat 22:36 - 23:39 “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
The two commandments comes with the first: Love the Lord, second: Love your neighbour.
Christianity is built on love. All the law and prophets hangs on love.
- Once we truly love our God, which is gracefully possible by Holy Spirit, then all our works in the world should only be done to glorify His name.
Once we love our neighbour as ourselves, we will try to seek peace with people and not sacrifice others for our own selfish good.
However, the first and greatest commandment is love your God, in which we should have the willingness to mengenalNya lebih dalam dan memuliakan namaNya, sebelum kita memikirkan relasi kita dengan sesama kita.
The pharisees and sadducees are seeking glory for themselves and not for God and others. Contrast to Jesus who comes to serve not to be served.
Therefore those who exalt themselves will be humbled and those who humble themselves will be exalted (in the kingdom of Heaven, which is the sole thing that matters)
Glory to God alone.
Seven woes of the pharisees:
(23:13) condemned the scribes and Pharisees for keeping people out of the Kingdom of heaven. They did not hesitate to dissuade people from following Jesus.
(23:15) The Second Woe was for making converts that were worse than they were.
(23:16) The Third Woe was for finding ways not to honor their commitments. They made a hierarchy of objects to swear by. But Jesus stress that all swears is to God and must be fulfilled
(23:23).The Fourth Woe was for intending to please God in small things like donations of plants, but ignored crucial matters such as justice and mercy in their dealings with people.
(23:25–31) The Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Woes are kinds of hypocrisy.
(23:32–36) The last word is damnation of His generation. The punishment of this generation consummates the destruction of the servants of God from Abel to the last prophet in the OT. Crucifying the Son of God was the greatest crime of all time.
